During 2008-2009, AMSTI – in partnership with the Office of School Readiness (OSR), McWane Science Center in Birmingham, and Carolina Biological Supply Company of Burlington, NC – will pilot the first Pre-K program in the state that places a strong emphasis on the math and science content areas.
The AMSTI Pre-K Pilot will train approximately 50 teachers from across the state, who currently serve students in local public schools, Jefferson County Committee for Economic Opportunity (JCCEO) Head Start, YWCA, and LaPetite Pre-School Academy. Early childhood instructors from Athens State University, The University of Alabama, University of West Alabama, University of Montevallo (UM), and the McWane Center also will participate in this training, and later serve as resources for program improvements.
